So what is the AirTag?
The AirTag is Apple’s new small, glossy disc shaped accessory. It can essentially track your items using Apple’s Find My App.
The AirTag was officially introduced at The “Spring Loaded” Apple Event in April. Apple touted it as a new tracking device that could help users locate their item with exact precision.

To locate your Tag, you have to head into the Find My App on your iPhone. Here, you can do a bunch of things to find your AirTag, like making it play a sound using its built in speaker. There’s also a new feature that allows you to track it using a navigational directing experience on your iPhone.

The AirTag takes advantage of the Find My App network that spans millions of other Apple devices. This year, Apple expanded their Find My network to third parties as well, meaning that non-Apple products can also take advantage of the Find My App for the first time.
So what does that have to do with the AirTag? Well, essentially, it means that other people can now help you find your Air if you lose it.
For example, let’s say that you left your bag with your AirTag on a bus. You can update that you lost your Tag on the Find My App and the Tag will passively update its location to other iPhone users. Those users can now help you retrieve your item back once they know that you are the owner. There’s even an option to type in your number so that other people can reach you faster.
You can also check the message from an AirTag with a Samsung phone as well. You just need to tap the AirTag on the back of a Samsung phone and the NFC chip will pull up a website on the phone. There, you can check the message that was sent by the Tag’s owner.

The AirTag is loaded with advanced pieces of technology, including Bluetooth, Apple’s U1 chip for precise location tracking, and a NFC chip. IT uses a 3-Volt lithium coin cell batteries which Apple claims could power it for about a year.

You can use the AirTags to track essentially anything, including valuable items such as car keys and purses and even pets.
Apple has released a case for the AirTag that can strap onto keychains and even around luggages and bags. Other companies, such as Hermes, have released exclusive cases as well.
