The new 2021 24-inch iMac is finally available for order starting today. The new iMac brings a larger display along with brighter colors, a thinner shape, and Apple’s very own M1 chip. Not to mention, the new Mac will have superior mics, speakers, and webcam, something that’s important for students and employees working from home these days.

Here are 10 reasons explaining why you should consider upgrading to the new 24-inch iMac.

1. New designs

The iMac makes an immediate impression at first glance. It’s the thinnest Mac that Apple has ever made, and at just over 9 pounds, it’s the lightest too. For comparison, the 21.5-inch iMac came in at 12.5 pounds and had a belly that stuck out in the back. Somehow, Apple was able to increase the size while keeping the weight down. That’s impressive.

In addition, the iMac also come with thin bezels stretch to the corner as the display, which gives the display screen more real estate for viewing.

2. iMac 2021 shines with a larger display

The new iMac also comes with a 4.5K Retina display with 4480X2520 resolution and 11.3 million pixels. In addition, the iMac comes with 500 nits of brightness, ProMotion, True Tone, and much more. These features help the iMac deliver a sharp, bright, and colorful experience.

Overall, the iMac looks super clean and modern looking. It works great and looks amazing anywhere you set it up.

3. Apple’s M1 Silicon Chip in the iMac 2021

Apple has added their new M1 chip to this year’s iMac. This wasn’t surprising as Apple announced that it would transition all their products to their own in-house chip. The M1 chip has allowed the iMac to run efficiently all from one single chip as opposed to having several different parts.

The M1 chip allows the iMac to run 85% faster and gives it a 2x faster GPU performance compared to the old model. In other words, you’ll be able to edit multiple 4K videos on Final Cut Pro simultaneously without any lags.

In addition, the M1 chip has allowed Apple to reduce the logic board and the internal components in the iMac, resulting in a thinner profile. Apple has also completely replaced the cooling system with two small noiseless fans.

4. More Storage

The new iMac will come with 256GB and 512GB in storage. You can also get 1TB or 2TB if you get the 4-port model.

5. Amazing camera quality

Before the pandemic, Apple rarely paid attention to the cameras on the iMac. Now that more people are working from home, Apple has given their cameras some much needed upgrade. The M1’s Image Signal Processor dramatically improves the picture quality with higher dynamic range, improved noise reduction, and better light exposures.

With the new iMac, your next Zoom meeting will look crisp and professional.

6. Better Audio

In addition to the upgraded camera quality, the iMac will come with improved audio quality as well. The new iMac will come with a three-mic array setup which means that there will be less muffling sound when you speak. Your voice will also sound clearer thanks to this new feature.

7. iMac 2021 has movie-like speakers

Apple products have always had amazing sound qualities. With this year’s iMac, Apple is revving up the sound system with a high fidelity six speaker system. These new speakers will give you a movie theater like experience thanks to its force-cancelling woofers and wide stereo support. The new iMac also supports the spatial audio feature as well.

All in all, Apple is betting big that their new iMac will become an all-in-one entertainment hub.

8. New Keyboard and Mouse

For the first time, Apple is bringing the Touch ID feature into a wireless keyboard. That means people can now shop easily with one touch of a button. In addition, this features allows people to access all their accounts more easily as well. Although Face ID would’ve been nice, for now this will do.

The Touch ID feature will only be available for the 4 Port iMacs. We can expect Apple to sell the Keyboard with the Touch ID separately sometime in the future. But for now, you can only get the Touch ID keyboard with the 4 Port iMacs.

In addition, all keyboards and mouse will come in the color of iMac, meaning that the blue iMac will come with blue keyboards and mouse. The magnetic power cord will also come in the color of the iMac as well.

9. Thunderbolt Ports and Ethernet

Whether we like it or not, we still need to plug in things to connect. It’s not so different for this year’s iMac as well.

This year’s iMac will come with two Thunderbolt ports for the base model. The second and third tier iMacs will come with 4 USB-C ports including two Thunderbolt ports.

The second and third tier iMacs also includes a charging case with an ethernet port.

10. The iMac 2021 has seven new different colors

The new iMac comes in seven different color choices: green, yellow, orange, red, purple, blue, and silver. The base model will have the blue, green, red, and silver color while the second and third tier will carry all colors.

This is the first iMac to have different color choices since the original iMacs over 20 years ago.

Which one should I buy?

Now is the hard part: Which iMac should you buy?

The only reason why you should get the second or third tier iMac is if you want the keyboard with Touch ID, ethernet port, or more color choices. Other than that, all the models perform just the same.

If you’re a casual user who likes to edit 4K videos from time to time, the base model iMac should work just fine. You can always buy a USB hub if you need the extra USB-C port.

All in all, if you’re thinking about upgrading your old iMac, then now is the perfect time. The 24" iMac is truly going to be one of the best desktops in the market.
