iOS 14.5 Features: You Need To Get This New Privacy Feature — From Apple Park
iOS 14.5 is now available to update along with iPad 14.5. With it comes the ability to unlock your phone with your Apple Watch, new emoji characters, and a new powerful privacy feature that stops apps from tracking you.
To update, head to the Settings app on your device, tap General, and then tap Software Update. The update should take around 10 to 15 minutes to finish.
Unlock with Apple Watch
In iOS 14.5, you can now unlock your iPhone using your Apple Watch. To use this feature, you must install watchOS 7.4 on your Apple Watch as well. To toggle on this feature, head to the Settings app on your phone, tap Face ID and Passcode, then toggle on the “Unlock with Apple Watch”.
After toggling on this feature, you can unlock your phone automatically with your Apple Watch every time you wear a face mask. Every time your phone unlocks, your Watch will notify you with a haptic feedback. You can also lock your phone by tapping the “Lock iPhone” from the Apple Watch.
App Tracking: Apple is Getting Serious Over Our Privacy
It’s no secret that tech companies use our data to their advantages. After all, data is the new gold, and companies like Facebook reap billions just by selling our data to advertisers. Apple is looking to change all that with their new App Tracking Transparency feature that comes with iOS 14.5.
With this feature, you can now ask apps to stop tracking you across other apps and websites. For example, when you open the Facebook app for the first time after installing the update, you can answer whether or not Facebook can track you across other apps and platforms. You can choose “Ask App not to Track” or “Allow”.
You can also see the list of apps that have asked to track you in the “Privacy” section of the Settings app.
New Emojis
New iOS 14.5 emoji include couple kissing emoji and couple with heart emoji with options to change skin color. Other new emoji include characters with different expressions such as face exhaling, spiral eyes, heart fire, a woman with a beard, and much more.
Siri can now play songs on Spotify, Pandora, and Amazon Music
With iOS 14.5, you can now use Siri on your favorite music player app, including Spotify, Pandora, and Amazon Music.
Normally, Apple doesn’t have an option to select a default music service, so this feature is mainly made for Siri.
To configure your default music service, call on Siri to play a song. Next, Siri will ask you which app you want to play your music on. After selecting your music service, Siri will now play all your songs using that app.
This is Apple’s first time expanding Siri’s capability to 3rd party music platforms.
